Thomas Paine
(1737-1809)

Once again, we shine a light on the words of America's founding fathers, those who had very definite ideas of the various topics that concern us today. Thomas Paine was probably one of the most outspoken of these fine men, on this topic. Do you think you know what Paine was all about? :) Just to reiterate, the Paine quotes I liked best concerned the tenet of Freedom of Religion, guaranteed by the First Amendment. And the... ahem, contention the subject wrought on the minds of our predecessors. But there are other subjects here too. Read on,enjoy...

"No falsehood is so fatal as that which is made an article of faith."
~Thomas Paine

"It is necessary to the happiness of man that he be mentally faithful to himself. Infidelity does not consist in believing, or in disbelieving, it consists in professing to believe what he does not believe.
~Thomas Paine

"When men yield up the privilege of thinking, the last shadow of liberty quits the horizon."
~Thomas Paine

"Of all the tyrannies that affect mankind, tyranny in religion is the worst; every other species of tyranny is limited to the world we live in; but this attempts to stride beyond the grave, and seeks to pursue us into eternity."
~Thomas Paine
